myo-Inositol is a sugar alcohol derived from glucose that serves as the basis of several secondary messengers inside eukaryotic cells including those inside the human body. In the human body inositol, especially in its monophosphate and triphosphate forms appears to play a role in mood stability. Consequently, many mood stabilisers alter the function of inositol monophosphate. Examples of mood stabilisers with this mechanism of action theorised or substantiated by the evidence include: * lithium salts * valproate salts * Carbamazepine * Oxcarbazepine * Topiramate * Lamotrigine ==See also==
